Nothing is more special than the bond two people share when they are in love with each other. Mark Zuckerberg’s is a sweet story about a couple who came to see their dreams, of being with each other, come true. And it’s not just any love story either. It involves one of the youngest billionaire in the world, and his long-time girlfriend, Priscilla Chan. As you all might know, Mark Zuckerberg is owner of the world’s most popular social network, Facebook. The couple tied the knot on 19th May 2012, just a day after Facebook went public. This very fact has sparked countless controversies all over the internet regarding Zuckerberg’s intentions of side-stepping California’s communal property law. Be that as it may, this has been one of the most romantic marriages, and also one of the most talked about. Already, Zuckerberg’s wedding event has more like than Facebook’s IPO.
About the couple
Mark Zuckerberg, who just turned 28, is one of the world’s youngest billionaire, and is the CEO of Facebook. Since Facebook’s Initial Public Offering on 18th May, Zuckerberg has become a $20 billion man. He is the largest individual shareholder with 28.4% of common stocks, and he also has 56.9% of the voting power, which effectively makes him CEO of the company, and one of the most influential CEOs at that.
Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan 26, is an american with Chinese origin. The two were fellow students and they met back in 2003 at a party. And they have been dating ever since. Chan is a pediatrician recently graduated from University of California, San Francisco school of medicine. This decade-long love story finally came to its zenith on saturday this weekend.
The ceremony itself wasn’t much. It was held in Zuckerberg’s backyard, and with fewer than 100 guests present. Only close friends and family were present. They were lured there on the pretense of celebrating Chan’s graduation from medical school. Little did the guests knew they were going to attend the wedding of the decade! What makes this marriage so special is the love between the couple, despite the difference in ethnicity. And of course, it involves a man who is a billionaire twenty times over! It’s a real wonder how the two managed to keep their relationship from the ever gossip-hungry paparazzi!
According to people close to the couple, the two wrote down their own vows. And their pet dog Beast, a sheepdog whose pictures they couple has been sharing, walked the bride down the aisle. Isn’t that cute? It was nothing like a conventional, bombastic wedding. It was unique and one of its kind, perfect for showing the love the couple has for each other.
Facebook IPO before the wedding
This has generated much talk about Zuckerberg’s instincts. Just a day before the wedding, Facebook was made public, which made Zuckerberg a $20 billion man. While some are saying this was a smart move, others are alleging that this was planned, and Zuckerberg wasn’t getting married because of the IPO. Although sources close to the couple say that the wedding was being planned for months, while the IPO was a “moving target”.
Coincidence or not, this was a pretty smart move on Zuckerberg’s part. California Communal Property laws require any earnings made between a couple after a marriage to be split in half in case of a divorce. Technically, Zuckerberg made the $20 billion before the marriage, so he essentially side-stepped the regulations. Had the IPO been after the marriage, Chan would have bagged a whopping $10 billion in case of a divorce.
This is not to say that this marriage will end in divorce. No! We wish this marriage lasts forever. But Zuckerberg has prepared for just such an eventuality, and has remained on the safe side. Why shouldn’t he? Google’s Eric Schmidt is expected to have an extremely expensive divorce, where his wife will walk away with $1.5 billion. Let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.
It is not like Zuckerberg has gained dominance with this step. Quite the contrary. Usually, such marriages involve prenuptial agreements where division of assets is more clearly defined. And Chan is no newbie in this area. She has been working with Mark on Facebook, and has helped him in various legal conjectures. And rumor has it that she has had him sign a ‘relationship contract’, the contents of which are unknown.
This doesn’t mean they both are selfish, cold-hearted people who are working to pretext their own interests. Theirs is a long love story. They were dating even before the birth of Facebook, and both contributed towards it. This means that they both know the difficulties faced, and the struggles made in making Facebook a success. And despite a difference in ethnicity, they both are much alike. Both are vegetarians, for example. Both like dogs. Both have similar hobbies and interests. In other words, they’re a perfect match for each other. We congratulate them on their marriage, and wish them a beautiful, and a very happy journey which they have embarked upon together. May their love last forever!
Congrats buddy.
I hate that Jew!

Do you really want to see the hard-earned money of you and your spouse end up in the bank account of a lawyer who doesn’t even know you. But there is a magic formula. This was the time when broadband internet was still in its infancy and uploading the revised pages could be nothing short of tedious with a slow phone line connectivity. In an effort to counter the lack of support from Microsoft, an SVG plug-in for Internet Explorer was developed and supported by Adobe. A far cry from the land of milk and honey you may think. So be it.
