So, Facebook’s 28 year old multi-billionaire CEO finally married the love of his life, Priscilla Chan 27, who is an American of Chinese origin. The couple tied the knot on 19th May 2012, after about 8 years of staying together. This just 24 hours after Facebook, the world’s largest social network, went public in its IPO (Initial Public Offering), putting Zuckerberg as a $19 billion man. Clearly, this is one week he is never gonna forget. Neither will Priscilla for that matter, since she just graduated from University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, to become a pediatrician. What better time to tie the knot, then, for such a couple so in love?
Fro a man who has encouraged people to share their life experiences with the world for the past 8 years, it was a surprisingly private wedding. In fact, the wedding guests were invited on the pretense of celebrating Chan’s graduation. And boy were they in for a surprise! There were less than a 100 guests, just family and close friends. Indeed, we were expecting such an event to be somewhat of a Facebook spectacle, if not a real one. But the couple kept their relationship private quite effectively, especially from the paparazzi. Indeed, all Zuckerberg did to announce his wedding was updating his martial status to Married, and uploading a photo. In fact, the couple released just a few pictures of their marriage day.
The above picture was an official release by Zuckerberg. He posted it on his timeline just as he updated his marital status.
Here’s another official release from the wedding. Zuckerberg has his one hand in his pocket, while the other is intertwined with Priscilla’s.
The reason I brought this up is because these pictures are a bit curious. The stiff, and formal composure of the couple makes them look almost like strangers. The first picture shows little enthusiasm, with little or no tenderness at all. It creates an awkward scene for both of them. But the second image shows them acting in a more traditional way. The bride’s posture, and her staying slightly behind the groom is a traditional in some Asian cultures. The intertwined hands and the grin on Zuckerberg’s face tells another story, one of affection. And the way he casually has his hand in his pocket, and has undone his collar shows that he is confident, and acting like a traditional groom. So much for putting up appearances.
Body language expert, Judy James says;
There are no active expressions of the kind of affection displays we normally associate with traditional wedding poses, like gazing into one another’s eyes, body or head closeness or even hugging or kissing. The bride looks much keener to create a more traditional display here, with her head tilted towards his or her torso tucked in towards him. Otherwise, on the surface they could almost look awkward enough to be strangers. There could be several reasons for this. In his case, I guess it is prompted by geeky diffidence and embarrassment.
This isn’t to say that there is no tenderness at all, and that the two don’t love each other. But who is to say what’s really going on? So far, the couple has done nothing to suggest any such thing. They both love each other dearly. Let’s hope it remains that way.
The above pictures were taken before the couple got married.
The above image shows Priscilla Chan waering her wedding ring and showing it publicly for the first time after the marriage. While we are on the topic of the ring, let me tell you some things about this ring.
The ring is made of ruby, as opposed to diamonds, because Ruby is a symbol of love in many Asian cultures. Zuckerberg designed the ring himself, and experts place the ring’s value at around $25,000. Now that’s a curious figure. Coming from someone like me, the ring would have cost many fortunes. But coming from a multi-billionaire, it’s kind of a cheap shot. Fans had high expectations from the youngest billionaire in the world. In Hollywood, Brad Pitt got Angelina Jolie a ring worth $500,000! Compared to that, $25,000 isn’t really that big a deal.
The wedding itself wasn’t that splendid either. It was held in the backyard of Zuckerberg’s $5 million house. Guests were minimal, and so was the catering. The wedding dress cost around $4,700.
Overall, it was a very simple wedding. Coming from a multi-billionaire, it wasn’t what his fans were expecting. Zuckerberg got off light from the wedding. He didn’t have to spend too much money. Be that as it may, the more important thing is that the couple celebrated their union in simplicity, and in love, and love is more precious than anything in this world.
Oh God , she is Fat, and aged :S :S
May the Couple lives together forever 🙂
