The world has found its next youngest genius again. Nick D’Aloisio, A 17 year’s old British teenager has recently sold his mobile application, Summly to one of the biggest organizations that exist in the online world, that is, Yahoo.com and has become the youngest and the richest mobile application developer after receiving a payment of $30 Million from the organization!
Summly- the app!
Summly is an iPhone application that has been designed to scan the web for content it thinks that the user might love to read. Once done with the scanning stuff, it then summarizes the article automatically. This means that if you are looking for something interesting on internet and finds an article or an e-book as long as 25,000 words, your Summly application can summarize it for you and helps in saving your precious time. The application also allows users to pick their favorite news sites from which articles are automatically shortened into “well-constructed and brief” mobile optimized summaries.
It is amusing to know that the app was actually been developed by young genius two years back in December 2011 when he was only 15. Since the day of its existence, Summly has been doing a great job and has summarized more than 90 million articles. The application has been downloaded 500,000 times so far.
“Yahoo in my mind is one of these classic Internet companies, and there is so much opportunity now that they have new leadership with Marissa Mayer,” D’Aloisio said. “There’s a massive opportunity in what they’re doing, which is taking technologies like Summly and allowing them to become used by hundreds of millions of people.”
Nick D’Aloisio-The youngest Developer!
Nick has been lucky enough that his app has now been affiliated to something as huge as Yahoo.com. This young British boy is happy for the overnight popularity and wealth that has been rewarded to him for his hard work. While he was been asked about how he thinks his app will help Yahoo, he said:
“Yahoo in my mind is one of these classic Internet companies, and there is so much opportunity now that they have new leadership with Marissa Mayer. There’s a massive opportunity in what they’re doing, which is taking technologies like Summly and allowing them to become used by hundreds of millions of people.”
Summly-Nick and the Future!
Nick has announced that he is postponing his plans to finish his high school for the job that has been offered to him by Yahoo as a full-time employee. Nick also said he is putting the money into a trust fund for his parents to invest and manage.
We wish this young lad all the very best for his future ventures.
Blessings,
The lad has actually done a great job , I wish I had internet connection in my young age.
People in foreign countries are doing amazing things from internet and in Pakistan it is limited to Facebook and stuff like that, and it is very hurting.
Well Good luck young Yahoo Employ , do well in there
Waqar, brother I partiallt agree with you but the fact remains that now that the world is going online, we cannot blame the country only. There are people in this nation who have been working all themselves to explore the new levels of success, Malalah and Arfa Kareem being an example. Even in the field of blogging, we have Brother Mustafa, Rafay who are known worldwide for their efforts.
All of these are self-made people.
but yes, it is a dilemma that about 80% of our nation is just mis-using the online resources and are only limited to facebook and things like that!
@ Nida really great success story
@Waqar , you are right , I agree with you . as a nation this is our tragedy .
Thank You Atif Brother 🙂
Its great news, unfortunately I missed chance to cover this story due to on vacations. It seems that New Yahoo CEO have some stunning plans to regains Yahoo’s lost dignity…
