This year has gone high on heels for publishers because the US filled an antitrust lawsuit against nation’s largest publishers and Apple Inc to limit the competition for pricing e-books. The corporations and publishers were holding private dining to discuss how to respond to steep discount of their e-books by Amazon.com Inc because they offer AMZN -1.26%, a practice by them which is disliked because publishers wanted to secure higher 30% margins on e-book sales. The department of Justice sue 5 major publishers and Apple as well who was accused of colluding with the publishers out of a desire to raise profit margins on e-books, which results in higher prices for consumers.

3) Twitter’s big year

Tweeter has been busy setting up an increasing exponential graph in tweets per minute during world big occasions like presidential elections and London Olympics, where it reported to produce 327,452 tweets per minute.  It also reported to has 500 million total users and 200 million active users in 2012. Not even the Pope signed up to tweet but it also introduces the “cards” API that allows companies to automatically add multimedia elements. There were some intermittent drawbacks as well like Instagram shuts off Twitter integration so you cannot post his photos directly.

4) Yahoo’s executive turmoil

The new about yahoo which was head over heels this year in TechCrunch Disrupt conference over the chaos that three senior executive expected to depart, Hilary Schneider who is responsible for advertising sales in US and business partnerships, David Ko, who oversees strategies for company media properties and company’s vice president of media Jimmy Pitaro. This year Yahoo was on its way to search for fifth CEO and finally its search come to an end with Marissa Mayer who introduced morale boosting initiatives such as free launches and all-hand meetings on Fridays.

5) Google gets into tablets

With 1280 x 800 pixel screen and a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor of Nexus 7 is becoming a competitive, compelling $ 200 product and a potential threat to iPad, though Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 were not the first Android tablets. Google’s thrusting tablets with high resolution and similar beefy internals with fewer prices that are becoming threat to other existing iPad.

6)Sandy

One more time, one of the most devastating events in the history of Natural disasters has been added on October 22,  2012 where Sandy flood away almost everything in the 24 states, affecting from U.S to eastern Canada, killing 253 people and destroying 15,000 shelters leaving millions of people on roads. It was the first time after 9/11 when the U.S stock market stay closed and other than that destroyed everything in effected states causing damage of $65.6 billion.
7)United State President election 2012
The 57 quadrennial presidential election was held on Tuesday November 6, 2012, the result was too close to predict but Barack Obama and Bidden won with 332 Electoral vote by 50 states and 65,621,472 popular votes against 206 Electoral Votes to Mitt Romney, and carried all the states and districts.

8)Windows 8

Windows 8 is the latest release of the windows operating system by Microsoft. The development phase of windows 8 had started in 2009 and was finally released on 26th October 2012 for general availability. The premium feature of windows 8 is its compatibility with different platform like laptop, home and business PC’s, tablets and home theatre PC’s. The primary feature of windows 8 is to increase the user experience on mobile devices as compared to rival platform like android and iOs. Other features include a speedy boot time, innovative and dynamic desktop, an improved and faster search system and windows live sync.

9)Apple vs Samsung

Two of the world’s largest Smartphone makers have been seen in a major lawsuit over the past year. By August 2011, Apple and Samsung were litigating 19 ongoing cases in nine countries; by October, the legal disputes expanded to ten countries. By July 2012, the two companies were still embroiled in more than 50 lawsuits around the globe, with billions of dollars in damages claimed between them. While Apple won a ruling in its favor in the U.S., Samsung won rulings in South Korea and Japan, and the UK. The major breakthrough came when Samsung was fined for a major amount of 1.05 billion dollars for willfully infringing on apple’s design.

11)Privacy concerns of Facebook

Facebook’s move to go public and sell stock in its company means it’s also facing pressure over protecting users’ privacy. Facebook has nearly 1 billion users and data about those users helps advertisers target their ads. But analysts fear that once Facebook goes public, there will be so much pressure to sell even more advertising that Facebook will be forced to gather even more data about its users. This leads to a privacy concern among the users as a private company is turned into a public company.

12)Apple loses its edge in online maps

Apple is a great company which makes great products. There was a time when Apple could do no wrong. Its every release was awaited with bated breath while its competitors scrambled for scraps in the dust. One of the main features of ios platform was the bond between Google and apple as Google offered its maps feature to apple in order to stand against their competitor Microsoft. With the advent of smart phones and android system Google services started disappearing from apple systems. The final blow came when Google maps were not featuring at all in ios 6. But this didn’t help apple in its purpose as allot of people were misguided by using maps which lack several distinct features.

13)London Olympics

Friday, July 27 was the day when the clouds and sun can’t be seen in London due to marvelous fireworks at the commenced of major international multi sport event. The event was entertained by 10,000 participants from 204 National Olympic Committees. The era from July 27 till August 12 has shared many cheers and tears of winning and losing.

14)ICC World T-20 Sri Lanka 2012

The fourth edition of the ICC world twenty 20 was held in Sri Lanka from September 18 to October 7,2012. This was the first twenty 20 tournament to be held in an Asian country. 12 teams participated in a tournament that consisted of 27 matches that lasted for the span of about 20 days. The West Indies team lifted the trophy after comprehensively defeating hosts Sri Lanka in the final of the tournament. Marlon Samuels was named the man of the match for his brilliant all round performance. Shane Watson from Australia was named as the best player of the series for scoring 249 runs at an average of 49.80 and taking 11 wickets at the same time. The tournament was an overall success and provided spectators with high quality entertainment.
