How to Add and Remove Sections in New Facebook Timeline?

Facebook has become a part of everyday life for most of us. It follows us wherever we go, be it school, office or home. It is an addiction for which no cure has been found yet. A website which started out as merely a source of contact among friends and family has become a source not only of information and entertainment but also a means to propagate ones religious, political and social believes. Keeping this in mind Facebook came up with innovative ideas for its users. One of them was the introduction of ‘User’s timeline’ sometime ago. With the success of this timeline and growing needs of its users, Facebook has now come up with a new and improved layout of the timeline to make using Facebook easy.

The new timeline puts all your posts on the right hand side in a single column. Whereas the left hand side is filled with all your activities. The idea behind this layout is of recommended content and cleaner layout. This makes it easier for you to designate favorite music, movie and books.

Moreover, it improves the visual experience of Facebook users as their friends’ activities and app stories become more prominent. One of the issues which comes up when you start to use this new timeline is how you can control what to show and what to hide. This article will guide you step by step information for adding and removing sections on the new timeline.

1. Hiding the ‘likes’ section:

The new timeline displays the ‘likes’ section in a separate box on the left. If you are willing to hide it, then move the cursor to the pencil (edit or remove button) in the likes section, open it and then click ‘hide section’. Hiding the section doesn’t mean that the section does not exist anymore rather it is an easy way of restricting your friends from viewing your likes.

2. Showing the ‘likes’ section again:

First of all you have to move the cursor to the pencil (edit or remove button) in another section, open it and click on the ‘Edit section’ option. A pop-up window appears showing different sections of your account. Here the sections being shown on your timeline will have a tick in their designated box whereas the hidden sections (including the ‘likes’ section) will have a blank box next to them. Once you click on that box a tick will appear in that box showing that the ‘likes’ section is no longer hidden.

One thing more which can be done is to change the order of the sections on your timeline. Just select a particular section and drag it above or below another in the pop-up window. This will change the position of both the sections on the timeline.

Now click ‘save’ in the pop-up to save your changes.

Alternatively, you can use the ‘About’ tab to bring about the changes mentioned above. You just need to click on the ‘About’ tab which opens up. Now take the cursor to the pencil (edit or remove button) on the tab and open it. Then again click on ‘Edit sections’ which will again open up the pop-up window where you can repeat the above mentioned process again. The ‘Update info’ button can also be used for the same purpose.
